One-Act makes state finals

By Alyssa Schafer, Editor

James Cavo and Alexis Kelsch were in grade school when the World Trade Center Towers fell. Now more than eight years have passed, and these Washburn High School students are part of a drama production that examines the tragic event. Cavo, Kelsch and the rest of Washburn’s One-Act cast earned sixth place in the State B One-Act Play Contest last week for their performance of "And the Giants Fell." The last time that Washburn placed at finals was 2004. This year, 20 teams qualified for state. The pool was split, with 10 teams competing at one site and the other 10 competing at a second site. Out of its group of 10, Washburn placed fourth on Nov. 23 at the University of Mary in Bismarck. During the state finals on Nov. 24 in Mandan, Washburn took sixth place, out of eight teams. "I’m pleased with our cast and our director," said Cavo, a sophomore. "I think we did a really good job."
