One-Act team takes fourth at state

By Michael Johnson, Editor

One of the finest performances with one of the youngest groups of students at Washburn High School brought the team of 20 Washburn students a fourth place finish at the State B one-act competition. While one of the coaches ranked the Washburn team in the first place, the team is proud of the spot that everyone of the members helped earn. The team performed in Grand Forks on Nov. 20 and 21, where they placed in the top three in the preliminary round. The top four from each of the two divisions went on to perform on Nov. 22. Washburn was then up against eight teams for the top placing. They had some good rankings from some judges and they were awarded the fourth place in the state. For coaches, Vickie Mayer and Wendy Miller, it was the finest showing they had ever seen and one of the most unique performances. “Wendy and I were very proud of our students,” Mayer said. “Considering we had one of the youngest and largest casts, we thought they did a wonderful job.”
