Painted Woods Golf Course is getting some assistance from Washburn sales tax money, receiving $25,000 in economic development funds in order to launch a new marketing campaign and bridge gaps in everyday operations.
With profits down and net income in the red, representative of Painted Woods approached the Washburn Sales Tax and Use committee on Monday. Rachel Retterath, a volunteer board member for the golf course, explained to the committee that since the expansion to 18 holes in 2014, the golf course has struggled to make ends meet.
“With the expansion, we anticipated 6,000 to 8,000 rounds of golf per year,” Retterath said. “We had 4,500 last year.”
Retterath said the golf course was also hoping to host 18 tournaments annually, but has been sitting between 10 and 12.
In an effort to rebrand the course, increase rounds of golf and boost income, Retterath said Painted Woods is hoping to launch a new marketing campaign.
“We want to work with KK Bold of Bismarck,” Retterath said. “They’ve been very successful with other golf courses in their marketing.”
