Pickin’ and a grinnin’

Under the sprawling cottonwood trees along the Missouri River, mandolins, fiddles and banjos will again echo through Cross Ranch State Park as the Missouri River Bluegrass Festival celebrates its 33rd annual gathering. The festival has been a cornerstone of North Dakota’s music scene for over three decades, fostering community, tradition and a deep appreciation for bluegrass music.
“It was a joint venture between the park and the Western North Dakota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association to celebrate the new park,” said Evie Andrus, whose father, John Andrus, played a pivotal role in organizing the festival for over two decades. “It was seen as a time and space to celebrate live music and give Cross Ranch a unique event.”
