Pushing for a dog park

Up and down the streets they went, knocking on doors, explaining their cause and collecting signatures from over 100 people. Rashel Shirley and her daughter, Lilly, are on a mission to put a dog park in Washburn, and have been putting in a lot of time and sweat into making it happen.

"We’ve been going door to door collecting signatures on this dog park petition," Shirley said.

Shirley, who has collected over 100 signatures already, is planning on addressing the Washburn City Commission at its meeting on April 12 to discuss the need for a dog park in town. She met with the Parks and Recreation Department last week to discuss possible locations.

"They would prefer not to have it on the soccer field and I am not about to put up a fight about it," Shirley said. "They have suggested some land across the highway and possibly by the walking path."
