Recently retired Sgt. Gordon Malaterre reflects on 38 years in the force

After nearly four decades of chasing bad guys and protecting civilians, McLean County’s Sgt. Gordon Malaterre is finally at peace with dedicating time and effort to his own personal enjoyment.
The former lawman — who officially retired from the McLean County’s Sheriff’s Office at the end of October — can still vividly remember his humble beginnings as a fresh-faced 24 year-old tackling his first assignment as Chief Deputy of Slope County in 1983.
