McLean County residents gave nearly 50,000 reasons that they want to make sure cancer research continues to improve the chances of those who have the disease. They also showed in nearly 2,000 ways how much they care about those who have fought and still fight the battle against cancer. This year’s Relay For Life event, hosted at Washburn’s brand new track, brought in many area residents to be both honored for their fight against cancer and to honor the fighters Friday evening. The 207 participants on the 18 teams brought in an outstanding $49,000. Event organizer Emily Retterath said that the lower number of teams that formed did an amazing job. “We only had 18 teams and we are confident that by July we will hit the $50,000 amount,” Retterath said. “This was a huge year.” The county had a goal of $45,000.
