At an age where most cowboys have already hung up their hats, one North Dakota native rode his way to becoming a world champion.
Raised in Wilton and taking residence in Mandan, housing development coordinator Lyle Hogue won the bull riding category for 60 and over at the National Senior Pro Rodeo Association (NSPRA) World Championship this past year at the age of 62 years old.
“Just last year was the first time that the association decided that they were gonna have a new age group which was 60 and over bull riding,” Hogue said. “We started getting more and more guys that were 60. Last year when we started the rodeo season, there were about eight of us over 60 that rode in rodeos throughout the year, and so then I went to rodeos throughout last year. I did seven rodeos, and I rode five out of seven bulls, and I qualified for the finals.”
