Old favorites, annual staples and a couple new features are on the schedule for this year’s Riverboat Days weekend, set to start the second Thursday in June.
The event will be kicked off this year with a new addition to Riverboat Days -- the annual Washburn Area Economic Development Association golf tournament. The tournament, which has been held in the past separately from Riverboat Days, will take place at Painted Woods Golf Course on June 7, starting at 1 p.m. Later that afternoon, the NDSU BBQ Boot Camp will guide attendees through grilling up the perfect grub.
On Friday, RDO will serve a 50th anniversary lunch starting at 11 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., Farmers Security Bank will be hosting its annual community brad feed.
The first parade of the weekend, the Kiddie Parade, will begin at 4:30 p.m. that day at the Krause’s SuperValu parking lot, with kids then venturing over to the free inflatables that will be set up at the school field from 5-8 p.m. The annual water rodeo will take place at the same time, in the parking lot of the football and baseball fields.
Local runners can enjoy the annual Coulee Trail Classic Run, a race through Washburn’s coulees and more challenging terrain, perfect for advanced athletes. Friday’s events will wrap up with a tent dance at Captain’s Cabin, which begins at 9 p.m.
Riverboat Days will be in full swing come Saturday, with a “Rollin’ on the River” parade down Main Avenue starting at 10:30 a.m. Kids games and balloon ninjas will be set up from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Memorial Building, with a car and tractor show starting at 11:30 a.m. on Main Avenue. Younger tractor enthusiasts can take part in the kids tractor pedal pull at 12 p.m.
