Rocking around the Museum

If you strolled down Main Street in Washburn this summer, you will notice something eye catching out in front of the McLean County Museum.Winding its w ay around the front of the building is a beautiful work of art, and wonderful enhancement to the Main Avenue business thoroughfare, River the Rock Snake.

River, who was the brainchild of Rhonda Johnson, museum curator/Washburn Life Community Coordinator, and Kandi Shape, Washburn public librarian, was conceived as part of the Washburn Public Library’s summer reading program. The first rocks for the project were painted on June 12 and June 19 at the weekly meeting of the summer reading program, which was held at the Museum’s historical Nettle Creek Schoolhouse.
