After 20 years of managing funeral homes, Paul and Tammy Sannes finally have one of their own.
The Sanneses closed on the sale of Goetz Funeral Home on Sept. 5, five years after moving to Washburn and taking over management of the business. The couple and their three boys have since been living at the funeral home, with plans to someday purchase it.
“That was always the plan,” Paul said. “When we first started looking at Washburn, we asked if there was a possibility of ownership.”
Paul said the previous owner estimated he would be ready to hand it over in five years, an accurate estimate, but a long wait.
“It goes slow when you’re waiting for it,” Tammy said with a laugh.
But the day finally arrived and the Sannesses are getting settled into ownership, with Paul moving to the main desk and Tammy taking his former office. Other than the slight rearrangement, the couple doesn’t expect much to change.
“We’ll keep the name and just continue to run and give dignified services like it has for the last 30 years,” Paul said.
Paul managed a funeral home in Linton for 15 years, but was looking for more. He and Tammy found that in Washburn.
