Local high school students came ready to showcase their stentorian pipes at the Feb. 20 Washburn Speech Meet. The event saw nine area schools visit the Washburn campus to compete in 14 categories, according to speech coach Vickie Mayer. Washburn student placements included: MJ Jennings – 1st Poetry; Alexis Duke – 6th Poetry; Gabi Oberg – 1st Storytelling and 2nd Serious; Jake Dahl/Molly Jennings – 1st HD; Molly/MJ Jennings – 1st SD; Jake Dahl – 4th Humorous; Elizabeth Duke – 5th Serious; Alexis/Elizabeth Duke – 4th HD; Kory Vissage – 5th Inform.
