Spectators at Washburn sporting events in 2018 will be able to keep better track of game progression, as new football and softball scoreboards were approved last week.
During its Nov. 13 meeting, the Washburn School Board took action on two separate improvements to local activities, moving to replace a older model football scoreboard and adding a new, portable softball scoreboard.
Superintendent Brad Rinas explained after the meeting that the current scoreboard, which is used for Southern McLean Roughrider football games, was badly in need of replacement.
“The current scoreboard quit working this fall,” Rinas said. “It is so old that there aren't parts available to fix it anymore.”
The board decided at last week’s meeting to order a new board, costing between $14,200 and $15,000, Rinas said.
“The range is to account for unforeseen costs that might come from having electrical work done, getting some equipment in to help with installation, etcetera,” Rinas said.
