After weighing several options, Washburn Public School awarded the engineering bid for a potential project to JLG.
The board listened to three presentations from engineering firms -- EngTech, JLG Architects and ICON -- during a special meeting on Dec. 5. Board members were looking for the right company to help guide the school in a large-scale renovation being considered.
The board discussed the engineering presentations during its regular meeting Monday night, with mixed reviews from attendees.
Kelly Schatz-Jennings said she liked that ICON had worked with smaller schools. Stacy Boeshans said she felt comfortable with ICON, and that she “had a hunch” about the company. She also said JLG seemed to be well-prepared and creative, a notion shared by several board members.
“The difference is you get more bells and whistles with JLG, thinking outside the box, more dazzling in design,” Luke Retterath said.
Stacey Scheresky said she wasn’t in love with any of the companies, but she appreciated that JLG seemed to have done its homework and came prepared with ideas.
