Sending help

Area organizations watching disasters hit southern states in the country came together recently to send some help from afar.
Churches and schools alike planned fundraisers and donation drives to provide assistance to hurricane-ravaged neighbors to the south.
Washburn United Methodist Church put out a call earlier this month for donations, putting together the items during an event last week. Adults and youth gathered at the church Sept. 13 to put together hygiene kits, cleaning kits and school kits for hurricane victims. The kits, enclosed in five-gallon buckets, included toothbrushes and bandages, soap, gloves and much more.
Pastor Cory Thrall said the donations made up 23 cleaning kits, 66 hygiene kits and 20 school kits.
The items will be donated to the United Methodist Committee on Relief, which will pass them onto victims.
