Sheriff’s Department welcomes new deputy

By Alyssa Schafer, Editor

Steven Stockdale might have grown up in Fargo, but he’s more comfortable in a small town. Growing up, he spent a lot of time in Baker, Mont., visiting with family and enjoying the slower pace. Now he’s working in Washburn as McLean County’s newest deputy, and he said he is happy to be learning the landscape and meeting new people. Stockdale joined the department on Nov. 16 and has been through the county’s field training program under the direction of Sgt. Richard Johnson, McLean County Sheriff Don Charging said. "It’s more or less showing (new recruits) our policies and procedures," Charging said. "We are a large county, with so many areas to cover. It helps make them acutely aware of their surroundings."
