The new  ‘Welcome to Washburn’ sign planned for the city will soon be a reality after the fourth and final sponsor was secured recently.
Engineering company AE2S was the last of four companies who signed on to pay $10,000 for a permanent position on the sign, directly under the digital portion of the board. In the other three sponsored slots on the sign will be Great River Energy, Archer Daniels Midland and Farmers Security Bank.
The total of $40,000 brought in from the sponsors completed the $100,000 in funding needed for the project, which will be located on the corner of Border Lane and Seventh Street. Sales and Use Tax money provided half of the total, or $50,000, and the last $10,000 was provided by Washburn Public School.
The sign, which is located on school property, will feature an electronic board that will promote both local city events and school activities. Economic Development and Marketing Director Tana Larsen said she will be in charge of adding city events, while the school will control promoting its own.
