Snowmobile trail considered

Official snowmobile trails may be in the area’s future, as the county gives a tentative nod for a group to start forming a plan.
McLean Co. Commissioners agreed to draft a letter on Tuesday authorizing the Sakakawea Fence Stretchers of Garrison to further explore the idea of snowmobile trails being developed in the county. Brent Schenfisch, president of the SFS, presented an overall look at what the trails would entail on Tuesday’s meeting, asking for the go ahead to proceed.
“I don’t need approval of a specific route, just that you’re open to the overall idea,” Schenfisch said.
According to a letter presented to commissioners, a proposed trail would start east of Garrison on Highway 37, then follow U.S. Highway 83. The trails would then follow primarily section lines and county roads to Benedict, which would have routes connecting to Sawyer and elsewhere in the state. In total approximately 150 miles of trails were being planned for, though specific routes have not been determined.
