Study finds need for childcare

Community members at a meeting last week said it is a struggle to find child care in town, and many have resorted to leaving their children with unlicensed caregivers. The demand for quality child care in the community was evident during last week’s meeting to discuss the results of the August 2009 "Washburn Child Care Needs" survey. "Daycare has been a huge concern in this community for a long time," said Nathan Grubb, who was one of 10 community members at the meeting. Twenty-six community members responded to the survey, which included a number of questions related to child care. The responses can be used as a tool to help assess Washburn’s child care situation, said Blake Crosby, Business Center Manager for North Dakota Child Care Resource and Referral. Part of the reason for such a high demand is that the days of family child care are past. Most people do not have that kind of support, he said.
