Student athletes participating in District 10 volleyball will soon be doing so in a super-regional format, which will completely eliminate district tournaments.

An application is pending submission to the North Dakota High School Activities Association, who must first approve the request.

If all goes well, the super-regional format will begin with the 2016 season, for volleyball only. There will be no change to the basketball program at this time.

In other areas of discussion at the Feb. 9 Washburn School Board meeting, a decision has been made on whether or not to purchase a new health insurance policy for school employees.

Board member Brent Petersen, on behalf of the Finance Committee, said that after a lot of research and great discussions, their recommendation is to stay with the school's current health insurance plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS).

Initially, the committee looked up rates for a company of less than 50 employees before being told they needed large group plan coverage. When they began their search for quotes, numerous sources told the committee that rates would not be available until April.
