Under water again?

By Stu Merry, BHG News Service

Could it be another year of flooding in McLean County? It certainly appears to be stacking up that way. And from what county officials heard at this past week’s annual township meetings, county residents are very concerned. County Auditor Les Korgel said the potential for flooding of roads this spring – especially in the Max, Garrison, Coleharbor, Underwood and Washburn areas – was one of the hot topics during the meetings. "Because the ground was so saturated with moisture this past fall most of the melt this spring will probably run off," Korgel speculated. He notes that many who attended the township meetings said they will have roads go under water this spring. County Highway Superintendent Ron Wagner admits the potential for flooding this spring is almost inevitable. He agrees that the most susceptible areas are those that Korgel mentioned as well as Douglas, Emmett and Benedict "because there are a number of low areas that are close to the road tops."
