Variety, tradition highlight strong year for McLean County Fair
From stuffed bears lining the midway to longtime fair traditions returning for another year, the McLean County Fair delivered a little bit of everything — and fairgoers noticed.
“I think everybody was really happy with the large variety of different events and entertainment,” Fair Board President Diane Schell said. “I think everyone was happy with everything.”
Attendance edged up slightly from last year, which had already been a strong year, Schell said. That upward trend reflected solid interest across much of the fair, from grandstand events to vendors and exhibits.
Highlights were easy to spot.
“The carnival and midway were spectacular,” Schell said, noting crowds and large prizes being carried across the grounds. “We saw a lot of huge stuffed bears walking around.”
Grandstand events also drew strong support, including the car and barrel races and the ranch rodeo.
“There was a really good variety,” Schell said. “Those were all hits.”
That variety extended to food and vendors, as well, even with a notable absence.
