Veterans Day Assembly features retirement of old glory in Wilton

The Nov. 10 Veterans Day celebration inside Wilton’s school gym included an action-packed program led off by the marching of the 6th grade Color Guard followed by the Pledge, a playing of the US National Anthem and a salute to the MIA/POW empty chair. What’s more, 35-40 invited veterans each received blankets from student sponsors that were handmade by the Wilton American Legion Auxiliary. The event, which was last held in 2016, closed with a ceremonial stripping of an old flag and a respectable outdoor burning. Pictured in the photo above is Sophia Hanson handing her old and tired flag to The American Legion Department of North Dakota Department Commander Steve Anderson. More photos inside.
