Washburn approves street, drainage improvement districts

The Washburn City Commission approved the creation of both a street improvement district and a drainage improvement district during its regular meeting April 13, following immediately after the Board of Equalization meeting.
According to meeting minutes published in this edition of the Leader-News, Commissioners unanimously approved a series of resolutions establishing Washburn Street Improvement District No. 20261, directing preparation of reports, cost estimates, and detailed engineering plans. A public hearing on the street improvement district was scheduled for May 19 at 6:30 p.m.
The commission also approved multiple resolutions creating Washburn Drainage Improvement District No. 20261. One vote on the drainage district engineering report passed 4–1, with Commissioner Sharla Kosloski voting against the measure; all other drainage district resolutions passed unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting, the commission approved a lodging tax reimbursement request from Washburn Life related to billboard repairs and new community promotion signage. Donna Sommer of Washburn Life told commissioners the organization had taken action to repair deteriorating highway billboards and purchase additional signs promoting local attractions and events, including the Clint Hill Memorial and Riverboat Days.
The commission approved the request with an amended total of $5,246.13, reducing the original request by $253.87. Commission President Mark Lelm abstained from the vote.
