Washburn administrators stepping down

Three individuals with just shy of 70 years of combined experience at Washburn Public School will not be returning this fall, as both principals and the athletic director all submitted letters of resignation Friday.
The Washburn Public School Board accepted the resignation of three school officials during its meeting on Monday, preparing itself for the departures of elementary principal Jerad Voglewede, high school principal Glen Weinmann and athletic director Pete Moe. All three tendered their resignations in separate letters Friday, with Weinmann explaining in his that he had accepted a position with the Information Technology Department of ITD.
Moe and Voglewede did not provide a reason for leaving in their letters and neither responded to requests for comment before Tuesday’s press deadline. Moe stated in his letter he would be finishing his fortieth year at the school in May and would not be continuing his teaching or co-curricular duties after that point. Voglewede stated he would be exploring other career opportunities and expressed appreciation to the school board both in his letter and at Monday’s meeting.
“Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and serve as principal the last five years,” Voglewede said. “It’s been a privilege.”
Superintendent Brad Rinas brought the letters of resignation to the board Monday evening, prompting acceptance of all three before discussion turned to filling the positions. Rinas said the three positions were in addition to the math and science spot that may be split into two roles.
“It probably needs to be two positions,” Rinas said. “The need is there for another full time math teacher and another close-to-full-time science, if not full-time.”
