Washburn approves special assessments
Residents of Washburn now have 10 days to pay off their special assessment totals before it is added to their yearly property taxes.
The Washburn City Commission confi rmed the city’s special assessment at its Oct. 13 public hearing. The next step will be for the assessment to be certified to the county and added to landowners’ property taxes.
However, there is a 10-day window for residents to pay off the assessment amount before it is certified to the county to avoid paying interest on the amount.
According to Washburn Auditor Chelsey Brandt, the deadline for payment is 4:30 p.m. Oct. 28. After that deadline, the amounts will be added to residents’ property taxes where they will accrue interest over the payment period.
For anyone who is unsure about their balance, or have questions, they are encouraged to contact city hall at 701-462-8558.
