Washburn Commission approves new spending limits for employees

Commissioners approved new spending limits for city employees after three months of discussion.
During the March 9 city of Washburn Commission meeting, which was held at the city hall, the commission revisited spending limits approved from the February meeting.
Commissioner Sharla Kosloski explained the purpose of voting on the spending limits previously was to take into account inflation. However, because of how the motions were worded, she said it actually hampered how some of the employees were able to do their jobs.
Because of this, the HR committee revisited the proposed limits and suggested removing the commissioner approval from emergency situations and the second tier of spending to read as follows:
$0 - $500 staff
$501 - $2,000 city auditor and public works director
$2,001 - $4,000 with consent of president and one commissioner
$4,001 and up full commission approval
