Washburn eyes new programs

The Washburn School Board briefly discussed ideas for new programs at Monday’s meeting, agreeing to review the subject more at next month’s meeting.
Stacy Boeshans of the co-curricular committee, addressed the board Monday evening to provide information on a couple different programs the school could explore.
“The National Archery in the Schools Program, or NASP, is in 47 states, including North Dakota and has 6,000-7,000 North Dakota students currently involved,” Boeshans said.
Boeshans said archery programs under NASP have regulated bows, to avoid advantages for certain players, and follow the same guidelines across the state.
“Practice would take place inside, and the arrows are safe for wooden floors,” Boeshans said.
Boeshans said if the program was launched, parents and teachers would be asked to volunteer and go through one eight-hour day of training. The school would need to purchase a kit through the NASP, which costs $3,100 and includes bows, targets, arrows and other necessities.
