Washburn Library gets interior facelift

It isn’t obvious from the outside, except for the CLOSED sign last Saturday and Monday saying the Washburn Public Library was closed for business. What in the world was going on over the weekend that kept the doors from being open? The interior of the library was due for a facelift and a paint job and Librarian Julie Petersen spent the weekend with a paintbrush in her hand. It is one of the many small changes that Petersen has been working on over the last year to update the library. Funding is always an issue for the library, but they have been very fortunate in the last year to receive money from two additional sources, a memorial gift and a grant. The memorial money came from the family of Ardith Larson. "It was a wonderful thing that they remembered the library," said Petersen. She used the memorial money to create a Lewis and Clark and North Dakota corner or section along the west wall just as patrons enter the library. She purchased shelving to hold books and memorabilia on Lewis and Clark and North Dakota. Local author Jessica Gunderson has two of her books in the section, one on Sakakawea and one on Lewis and Clark.
