Washburn musicians earn nine star performances

By Michael Johnson, Editor

Washburn music students blew away the judges at the State Music contest on Saturday.  Nine of 11 entries received Star ratings, which is the highest that the music festival offers. The other two received No. 1 ratings. Those nine stars are more than music director Randy Hall is used to seeing. “That's probably the best we've done on a state level,” Hall said. “The kids we've got are outstanding.” Jesslyn Hall stole the show by helping to earn five star ratings and one No.1 rating, an impressive showing for one musical student to bring. She and the rest of the state winners performed their pieces at the Music Jamboree on Monday night.
