Washburn has about a 50/50 chance of being the site of a $1.16 billion water supply project intake.
A decision on where the Red River Valley Water Supply Project will source its water has not been made yet, according to Garrison Diversion Communications Director Kimberly Cook.
“A location is being pursued approximately 5 miles south of Washburn, give or take, but we also continue to pursue the McClusky Canal option,” Cook said.
The pipeline, expected to follow Highway 200 from Washburn to Lake Ashtabula, will bring water from the Missouri River to the Sheyenne River. The project, estimated to cost $1.16 billion, will provide water to 35 communities and approximately 50 percent of the state’s population.
