Washburn school committee addresses details of updates

Looks at upcoming timeline of board, community meetings

Washburn Public Schools held a meeting to discuss possible capital updates to roll into the potential new school project. The committee, which consists of current board members, the former superintendent and more, met Aug. 31 to outline a plan for the upcoming months.
Background The renovation plan, as noted in previous reports, was conceived in 2019, only to be abandoned roughly a year later due to the COVID outbreak. T h e m u l t i - f a c e t e d undertaking would furnish the public school with handicapaccessible restrooms and
relocated units to enhance classroom space. The school board has also discussed adding an outdoor elevator and moving its on-site fitness center down to the first floor and possibly making it accessible to the community EngTech was h i r e d i n December at the cost of $12,500 — a portion of which ($2,500) will be credited if the company is retained to perform future design work for the undertaking.
