Water usage on the rise

By Michael Johnson, Editor

The city performed one of its first readings of the water meters and was able to read 574 meters as of this time. Deputy Auditor Joan Zimmerman said they entered the information from the last meter reading to see what the water usage was, and they were surprised at the results. "On Wednesday, we got this reading, this is the problem," Zimmerman said. "The residents owe the city $289,769.33." "Who owes that?" Mayor Elmer Miller asked, surprised. "The residents of Washburn," auditor Millissa Price said. In addition, the commercial group was showing a reading of about $51,000.
