Weather slows construction, crews scramble to finish

By Alyssa Schafer

Once again, it’s wait-and-see construction as time without street access drags on. Recent snowy weather all but halted construction progress for a few days, but city officials and engineers are hoping the weather will cooperate for the next few weeks. "We’re doing everything we can to get this project completed in a timely fashion," said Dave Thompson of Toman Engineering. Bechtold Paving and Knife River Corporation crews will be in town working furiously until the job is finished, as long as the weather holds. "I’m keeping my fingers crossed," Thompson said. "We’re so weather-dependent this time of year." At Monday’s city commission meeting Thompson updated commission members on the project’s progress, but he hesitated to give a firm completion date. It will take about two weeks if the weather cooperates, he said.
