What McLean County voters need to know ahead of June 9 primary
The 2026 primary election is fast approaching for McLean County voters, with Election Day set for Tuesday, June 9.
McLean County has operated as a votebymail county since 2012, a format that will continue for the upcoming primary election. While the county conducts voting primarily by mail, four inperson polling locations will also be open on Election Day.
Absentee ballot applications mailed
According to McLean County Auditor Beth Knutson, absentee ballot applications have been mailed to all active voters in McLean County.
A voter is considered active if they appear in the initial Central Voter File and voted in either of the two previous general elections. Voters who received an application may complete it and return it to the auditor’s office.
Those who did not receive an application may download one online, request one by mail by calling the Auditor’s Office at (701) 462-8801, or complete an application online at
https://www.mcleancountynd.gov/departments/election-information/vote-by-mail.
By checking all boxes at the top of the application, voters will automatically receive ballots for their school election, the June primary election, the November general election and any special elections held in 2026. Voters who do not check the box for the general election will receive another ballot application around Sept. 16.
Completed absentee ballot applications may be returned by mail, delivered in person to the Auditor’s Office, or placed in the secure drop box located at the main entrance of the McLean County Courthouse.
