Wilton ambulance service spreads east
The Wilton Rural Ambulance Service is set to take more trips into northeast Burleigh County as the district expands its response area east. As of Midnight on Jan. 31, the Wing Rural Ambulance District shut down permanently after battling for years with a shortage of both volunteer drivers and EMTs. The district held its annual meeting on Jan. 29, formally deciding to close the service for good. Without Wing’s local ambulance in operation, the city and surrounding area was in need of emergency service coverage, which will now come from about 20 miles west. Wilton Ambulance Squad Leader Leann Domonoske-Kellar said the service has incorporated the Wing area into its response area, meaning the Wilton service will be responsible for answering emergency calls.
