Wilton First Presbyterian marks 125 years

First Presbyterian Church of Wilton will mark its 125th anniversary with a special service at 11 a.m. July 27 at the church. The commemoration will include a luncheon, a historical presentation and celebratory cake and ice cream.
The milestone event invites former members and neighbors to share memories and fellowship following the worship service. Organizers encourage all who have been touched by the church’s ministry to attend and reconnect.
According to church history books provided by congregation member Maretta Franklund, the congregation first gathered in June 1900 inside the Jacob Kilian butcher shop. Early parishioners sat on wood-plank benches placed atop kegs of fish and pickles until a chapel, the first church structure erected in Wilton, was built later that year.
