Wilton School accepts ESG plan

After months of discussion, a few hours of lost sleep and several negotiations, the Wilton School Board had full approval from all board members to move ahead with a contract with Energy Services Group at a special meeting Friday evening. The $1.7 million deal will mean contractors will start work in the school this month to update the ventilation, heating, lighting, cooling and overall efficiency of the building. This is a slightly adjusted plan from the one that board members voted down months ago. Construction will last about one year. What changed? Board members Bill Harris and Ben Schafer sat on the facilities committee to discuss the plan for the major upgrades. While they initially thought that they could buy the assessment made by ESG and hire their own contractors, in order to cut out the middle man, the latest offer sounded too good to pass up. The change came in the form of about $150,000 in savings from Honeywell. The savings was only up for grabs until the end of the year. So board members had to act at that meeting if they wanted it. The board was told that they may see additional savings because the group is currently working with the Bismarck School District on upgrades. That could mean more bulk buying and deeper discounts.
