Ziegler’s Landing gets tentative dock OK

Property owners in the Ziegler’s Landing Homeowners Association are one step closer to installing a courtesy dock at the public boat ramp at Ziegler’s Landing near Garrison, after receiving the go-ahead from McLean County Commissioners – with the assurance that the members of the homeowners association will take care of the maintenance and any additional garbage that may incur because of the anticipated increase in use.
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has already agreed to deliver and install a 32’ dock at the boat ramp, and the commissioners agreed that the county will insure the dock for $250,000 per person and $1 million per occurrence, just as it does for other public docks.
“We have several cooperative agreements that fall under our blanket policy,” noted McLean County Auditor Les Korgel. “I’m thinking this falls under that. It wouldn’t be a special rider as far as I know.”
“I would be all for this as long as we’re covered,” commented Commission Chairman Doug Krebsbach.
State’s Attorney Ladd Erickson was asked for his position on the matter, and he noted that when a request was earlier put in for a dock a couple years ago, the request was put in by the private property owner, so it was denied. Now that it is an association making the request instead of a private property owner, there shouldn’t be a problem.
The commissioners will wait to make its official decision following confirmation from the county’s insurance agent that it won’t cost the county more money to insure the additional dock.
