The Washburn City Commission called a special meeting early Monday morning in response to a second letter of resignation out of the city office in just over a week.
Washburn City Auditor Joan Zimmerman resigned from her position on Monday, just a week after after the city’s deputy auditor tendered her resignation. In an email sent to the city commission on Friday, Zimmerman stated she would be stepping down after 10 years in the role.
“I am appreciative of the opportunity I have had to work with the community of Washburn for the past ten years,” Zimmerman stated in the email.
The email came just days after deputy auditory Sharon Hendrikson left her position at the office, serving her last day on Feb. 26 after submitting a letter of resignation Feb. 22.
With the city office suddenly unmanned, the Washburn City Commission called a special meeting for 6:30 a.m. on Monday to address the vacancies.
The commissioners made separate motions to approve resignation letters from both Zimmerman and Hendrikson, then moved on to discuss staffing the office. City Commission President Larry Thomas said he could contact temp agencies in the area to find immediate help while the commission worked through the hiring process for permanent employees.
