13 heading to state

Thirteen Roughriders are heading to State competition in Bismarck this weekend, with both the boys and girls teams taking second at the region meet on Saturday.
Eight boys and five girls from Southern McLean have qualified to take part in this year’s North Dakota State Track meet in Bismarck. Qualifying for the boys are Isaac Buck, Garrett Pfleiger, Tate Bertolotto, Denny Neustel, Tyler Dahme, Ben Frederick, Coltan Hyttinen and Ezra Vogle.
Neustel led the pack for the boys at Saturday’s South Central Invite, taking first in the 200-meter dash and second in the 400-meter dash, qualifying him for state this weekend. Hyttinen took fourth in the 1600-meter run and fifth in the 800-meter. Conoly took fifth in the 3200-meter run and placed seventh in the 1600-meter. Buck took sixth in the 100-meter dash.
The Roughriders placed in the top eight for four relay events, and the top three for three of those. A team of Buck, Pfleiger, Bertolotto and Neustel took second in the 4x100 relay, earning a spot at state. Dahme, Frederick, Hyttinen and Neustel took third and qualified in the 4x400 and Dahme, Vogle, Frederick and Hyttinen also took third and qualified in the 4x800 relay, with Conoly serving as an alternate for State. A team of Buck, Pfleiger, Vogle and Eckel took sixth for the 4x200.
Bertolotto took fourth in Javelin and in long jump. Dakota Harrison placed fifth in shot put, Karter Hansen took fifth in high jump and Buck earned seventh in high jump.
For hurdles, Andrew Mehlhoff took seventh in the 110-meter and the 300-meter event. Frederick placed eighth in the 110-meter hurdles.
