Backman, Willett pace Southern McLean girls in deep throwing fields
Southern McLean continued its steady rise in the throwing events Thursday at the Beulah Throwers Meet, piling up personal bests across both divisions and earning a fourthplace boys finish in a competitive field.
With only three events on the schedule — shot put, discus and javelin — the meet rewarded depth and consistency. Southern McLean delivered both.
Benning anchors boys team with two topthree finishes
Junior Kaleb Benning once again led the way, placing third in discus with a personalbest 1250, one of the top marks of his career. He followed it with another thirdplace finish in javelin at 1356, continuing a strong earlyseason run in the event.
Freshman Colton Nielsen added a solid day of his own, finishing 15th in discus (878) and 13th in javelin with a personalbest 856. He also scratched in shot put after warmups.
