Black Devils dominate Miners 45-14

By Brenda L. Shelkey

For the Miners, Homecoming night may have thought they were flying with a "wing and a prayer" against the Hettinger Black Devils. The theme of the week was "Flying in for a victory," and in the first half, it almost seemed attainable. In the first quarter, the Black Devils put their first score on the board with 5:15 on the clock. Then Miner senior quarterback Zach Johnson connected with junior Derrek Heins who ran the ball in for a touchdown, then the Johnson ran in the two-point conversion, evening the score 8-8. In the second quarter, the Black Devils added two more touchdowns, but the Miners returned the favor with one of their own. Cody Durkee led the Miners in rushing eight attempts for 41 yards, struggling to make headway through the towering Black Devils.
