Cardinal boys win last three; secure number one seed

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

The Washburn boys’ team has continued to step up through adversity this year, first losing one of their few inside presences in Monty Johnson and then recently having to play without the team’s top scoring threat, Jeff Rasmussen. Despite the hardships, the team has continued to roll along, winning their last three games of the regular season last week. Wins against the New Salem Holsteins and the Napoleon Imperials added to Washburn’s win total, but the defeat of the Max Cossacks held a little more meaning, giving them the number one seed in the upcoming district tournament. That important win on the road against Max was the first of the week. The game broke open in the second quarter, as Washburn outscored the Cossacks 19-5. Max is a team that can get hot when their shots are falling, but the Washburn defense kept them mostly in check. They allowed only one player into double-digits and even then just barely as Max’s Levi Tomlinson had just 10 points, in the Cardinals’ 65-42 win.
