Cardinal netters win two games in opening week

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

Along with new Head Coach Chad Oberlander, the Washburn Cardinals came into the season looking to make a bigger impact on the district than years past. With the first week of games already under their belt, the team is well on their way to putting Washburn volleyball back on the map. The Cardinals showcased their first win of the season on their home floor against Minot-Ryan 3-1 before taking the long trip up to Drake two days later for a win in straight sets, 3-0. They made it look easy in the first set at home against the Minot-Ryan Lions. The upfront attack from Cori Moberg and Spanky Clayton found open floor among the Minot-Ryan defense and the set quickly added up to a 25-15 end in favor of the Cardinals. It was another win in the second, but it didn’t come as easily. Washburn scored the first five points, including two kills from Moberg before Minot returned the favor to tie it up.
