Cardinals boys split week 1-1
The Washburn Cardinals boys basketball team split a pair of early January games, grabbing a convincing home victory over Flasher before narrowly falling to Medina Pingree Buchanan at the Jamestown Civic Center.
The two contests offered different types of tests, and according to Head Coach Josh Sharp, both provided valuable insight as the season continues to unfold.
Washburn returned to its home floor Jan. 6, where they controlled the tempo from start to finish in a 75 to 52 win over Flasher.
The Cardinals established themselves early and never allowed Flasher to generate consistent scoring runs.
Parker Jacobson was a major factor, pouring in a game-high 26 points. Ethan Retterath followed with 21, while Brady Nelson added 10 to give Washburn a strong trio of offensive threats.
Additional scoring came from Dylon Fischer with 6, Josh Laning with 4, Aiden Beutler and Keaton Kadrmas with 3 each, and Noah Holznagel with 2.
Sharp noted that while Flasher entered the game with several key players dealing with injuries, his team maintained focus and avoided the trap of overlooking an opponent.
