Cardinals defend roost against Raiders

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

The Cardinal football team took to the home field for the first time this year to knock helmets against the Richardton-Taylor Raiders. With six different people crossing into the end zone for seven total touchdowns, Washburn firmly put their first mark into the win column on Friday night. In the first quarter it was all Washburn with Rasmussen completing passes to both Weston Deitz and Monty Johnson for touchdowns, putting the Cardinals up by 14. The Raiders would come marching back in the second putting 16 points on the board through the running game. The Cardinals weren’t without answers though with Rasmussen taking a walk through the goal line and Evan Eberle catching a touchdown pass on the tips of his outstretched right hand just before the half. Richardton-Taylor would score first in the second half, but that would be the end of their trips to the scoreboard as the Cardinal defense would step up early in the third quarter with defensive stops and a timely interception by Deitz.
