Cardinals edged out by Troopers

A lot of things have changed over the years in the Washburn Volleyball Program, but the tradition that is the annual Washburn invitational tournament is something that has persisted.

Over the weekend, the Cardinals hosted seven other teams for a day of non-stop volleyball action.

Coming off a 3-0 loss against Shiloh earlier in the week, Washburn played in the very first game of the tournament and stayed in the competition nearly to the very end.

Closing out one of the two courts in the consolation championship at the end of the night, they were overcome by the Garrison-Max Troopers in the third set of that matchup.

The Cardinals didn’t start the day off on a good foot in the early hours of the morning, dropping their first match against Sawyer in two sets. And although they split their matchup against Harvey, Washburn very nearly allowed the set they won to slip away.

But given some time to wake up and wipe the sleep from their eyes, the hosting team had a chance, a couple of hours later, to perform up to their abilities; closing out pool play with an easy 25-19, 25-13 win against Standing Rock.
