Cardinals fall short despite gritty effort on the road
The Washburn-Center-Stanton Cardinals came up short last Tuesday evening in Bottineau, dropping an 8-2 decision to the Varsity Stars in a hard-fought road matchup.
Though the final score leaned heavily in Bottineau’s favor, the contest remained competitive through the first five innings before the Stars broke it open with a five-run sixth.
Cardinals pitcher Kya Kulzer turned in a strong performance on the mound, striking out 15 and allowing just three hits over six innings.
Despite the eight runs scored, none were earned, as the defense behind her struggled with errors that extended innings and allowed Bottineau to capitalize.
