Cardinals finding momentum at right time entering Region VIII tournament

After battling through a difficult stretch of the Region VIII schedule, the Washburn/Wilton/Center-Stanton Cardinals appear to be putting things together at the perfect time.
The Cardinals closed a busy week of baseball with a shutout victory over Hettinger while showing signs of growth throughout all three contests as postseason play quickly approaches.
Washburn/Wilton/Center-Stanton opened the week Tuesday, May 5 against one of the top teams in Region VIII, traveling to face Shiloh Christian.
The Skyhawks controlled the game from the outset and handed the Cardinals a 12-0 defeat. Shiloh Christian scored in four different innings while limiting WWCS to just two hits offensively.
Oscar Wood and Jaxon Solomonson accounted for the Cardinals’ only hits in the contest, while Ethan Retterath, Brady Vollmuth, Hudson Wolff, and Tanner Fiedler each worked walks to help generate limited offensive opportunities.
Despite the final score, WWCS received some encouraging pitching performances throughout the game.
Ethan Retterath delivered a strong relief outing, allowing just one hit over 2.2 scoreless innings while striking out five batters.
Hudson Wolff started the game and allowed just one earned run across two innings, while Oscar Wood and River Kjelstrup also saw time on the mound.
